Homework 5 - Line & Rhythm
1. What kind of lines can communicate motion? Stability? Energy?
Jagged and curved lines have more energy. Horizontal lines tend to be more stable.
2. Why are human beings able to see "implied" lines?
It leads the mind to the unity of two objects. This is called closure, the connection between two fragments of information.
3. How might a graphic designer use lines differently than a fine artist?
Lines in graphic design usually give utility to the image. They help complex information appear simple. Artists use more robust styles of line to convey visions or emotions.
4. How is visual rhythm different than musical rhythm?
A visual rhythm uses multiple objects in a visual pattern. Musical rhythm contains the conscious placement of notes with respect to tempo, silence, accents etc.
5. What must be present for rhythm to exist?
